Evidence & current status
JASDF is a primary observation source; CASI provides industrial mapping. Numeric values from export variants are not transferred to the observed domestic aircraft.
BZK-005, also known as Changying, is a Chinese reconnaissance aircraft associated with Harbin and Beihang's uncrewed-aircraft work. The China Aerospace Studies Institute's industrial survey identifies that programme relationship and distinguishes the export BZK-005E. Manufacturer allocation for each later version should therefore be established at variant level rather than attributed to one interchangeable corporate label.
Japan's Joint Staff published a photographed observation of a BZK-005 in July 2025. This is direct evidence of an identifiable aircraft in military activity, and supports the catalogue's documented-use status. Such an observation does not reveal its complete sensor package, airframe performance or the number operated.
This profile intentionally separates identity and use evidence from performance claims. Export brochures for BZK-005E cannot safely be used as a specification for the domestic aircraft seen by Japan. Nor does a suspected sighting in another country establish a sale, operator or transfer history without additional evidence. Current sensor variants, manufacturer responsibilities and export customer acceptance remain useful research priorities; the programme is no longer absent from the catalogue.
