Evidence & current status
WHOI dimensions and mass describe its published baseline, not every current military configuration. HII directly documents Royal Navy service history.
REMUS 100 is a compact autonomous underwater vehicle developed from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution’s coastal research programme and subsequently produced commercially by Hydroid, now part of HII. It travels untethered rather than relying on continuous piloting through a cable. Its applications include seabed survey, environmental measurements and naval mine-countermeasures support.
HII’s May 2024 announcement records additional Royal Navy purchases and states that the UK’s first two REMUS 100 vehicles remained in operation. This supports a documented service history, but not the assumption that their electronics or sensors remained unchanged. The WHOI specification describes an early compact baseline; modern customer vehicles can differ substantially.
This profile therefore identifies the configuration behind its limited numeric data and does not copy endurance from a differently equipped vehicle. It also keeps REMUS 100 separate from the newer REMUS 130 and REMUS 300. A shared family name is not evidence of identical mass, battery capacity or depth rating.
