Evidence & current status
Flight-test evidence is established. Current operational acceptance and a current production configuration were not established in the reviewed primary sources.
TAPAS-BH-201 is the Aeronautical Development Establishment's medium-altitude, long-endurance surveillance programme. The Rustom II name belongs to its earlier programme identity, rather than a separate production aircraft. India's Ministry of Defence announced its maiden flight in November 2016, while DRDO's March 2023 newsletter described its flying appearance at Aero India and published an 18-plus-hour endurance figure and operating altitude up to 28,000 feet.
These dated programme statements are useful evidence of development progress. They do not establish that every original endurance requirement was achieved, that series delivery has begun, or that a military service has accepted an operational fleet. Earlier requirements and later demonstrations should therefore remain separate when comparing TAPAS with other MALE aircraft.
This profile treats TAPAS as a reconnaissance development programme. Specifications are attached to the dated DRDO account, and a current acceptance decision remains a review gap. Numbers circulating for an armed Archer aircraft or another Indian UAV should not be carried across merely because the programmes share an organisation or design heritage.
