Nigerian Air Force — induction documented in 2018

Evidence & current status

The recorded 2018 induction and the former senior official's October 2024 assessment conflict. No current acceptance/readiness statement resolving them was located; historical numerical claims are retained without implying current fleet performance.

Tsaigumi is a Nigerian Air Force surveillance programme developed within the service's domestic research effort. An official NAF historical account records induction in February 2018 and describes a day/night electro-optical and infrared payload. Its published mass, endurance, mission radius and ceiling remain useful historical programme figures, not an independently verified 2026 performance assessment.

A later account complicates the service-status claim. In a 15 October 2024 seminar paper publicly hosted by Nigeria's Defence Research and Development Bureau, retired Air Vice Marshal Jomo Osahor states that Tsaigumi could not be operationalised. This is an attributed assessment by a former senior official, rather than a current fleet-status bulletin. It conflicts with the earlier history's wording and does not by itself establish the condition of every aircraft today.

NAF's November 2024 research retreat still identifies Tsaigumi as a project and discusses partnerships with UAVision and Zenith Prom. None of these records supplies a reconciled production total or current serviceable fleet. The profile therefore preserves the induction history while making present operational status unresolved. Earlier Amebo and Gulma work provides programme context; imported Nigerian aircraft are separate designs.

Documented milestones

  1. Programme discussed at research retreat

NAF identifies Tsaigumi among its R&D projects and notes industrial partnerships.

  2. Conflicting status assessment presented

Former DRDB head Osahor says Tsaigumi was not operationalised; this differs from the earlier NAF historical account.

Publication history

  • — Research found a later primary firsthand account contradicting the prior unqualified operational status. Preserve both attributed records and use See profile until contemporary operator evidence resolves the discrepancy.
  • — Added a sourced global catalogue profile with configuration-specific data and explicit evidence limits.
