Uncrewed ground vehicles operate on the ground without an onboard driver. The term covers small inspection robots, equipment carriers and much larger modular vehicles. A remotely controlled vehicle belongs in this library even when it has no autonomous driving mode. The profile should explain what the operator controls and what the software can do, rather than treating all robotics as a single level of autonomy.

Roles and industrial models

The field includes load carrying, observation, engineering support and explosive-ordnance disposal. These roles can share a mobility platform while using very different equipment. An advertised modular payload interface does not establish that every proposed configuration has been built or delivered. General Dynamics' S-MET and MUTT material, for example, distinguishes equipment transport and different control modes from a wider list of prospective integrations.

Read the ground-specific data

The catalogue records mobility layout, dimensions, mass, payload, endurance, range, speed and terrain qualifications. Check whether mass is empty, fitted or gross. Check whether a payload figure includes installed mission equipment. A road-speed claim and a loaded endurance trial describe different conditions; combining their maximum values can give a misleading impression. Where a source does not describe the conditions, the uncertainty remains visible.

Trials, acceptance and use

A military demonstration, procurement contract, codification decision and operator deployment are distinct milestones. An older vehicle can have an established service record while a newer autonomy or payload package is still experimental. Profiles therefore separate base platforms from named variants and retain the date and institution behind each status claim.
